Active Transportation Plan

The City of Claremont is developing an Active Transportation Plan (ATP) that will aim to make Claremont more walkable, bikeable, and transit-oriented to advance the City’s equity, sustainability, and livability goals. The ATP will build upon existing planning efforts and existing infrastructure to create a connected, cohesive, safer, and accessible active transportation network that will serve the community’s diverse needs and integrate with planned developments and capital improvement projects like Village South and the Metro Gold Line extension.

As part of the planning process, the ATP will include a thorough review of Claremont’s roadways to evaluate the feasibility of infrastructure improvements. These improvements may include separating pedestrians and bicyclists from motor vehicles and implementing measures to manage traffic speeds and volumes. The goal is to enhance safety and comfort for all users of the transportation system.

The ATP will enter its first public engagement phase in fall of this year, and will include in-person and virtual workshops, in-person pop-ups at existing City events, and a project website with multiple digital engagement tools. A second phase of engagement is scheduled for spring 2026.

Community engagement will be a crucial component of the ATP development and will be used to guide the plan’s final recommendations. The final plan is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The City welcomes you to collaborate in the planning process. Please stay tuned for the launch of the project website where you can learn more about upcoming events, leave feedback on the project input map, and take the community survey.
